A ceremony was held at the production site of the Shipbuilding Design Bureau to lay down a replica of the historical sailing-motor vessel "Phoenix" under project RP1809. The construction is being carried out under the technical supervision of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS).
The Register was represented at the event by Deputy General Director Andrey Fasolko and Deputy Director of the Baltic Branch Sergey Demin. They noted that the project is being implemented as part of efforts to preserve maritime heritage and develop modern yacht construction, taking into account historical traditions.
The designer is "Forss Technologies". All technical documentation has been examined by the RS Main Directorate and received a positive conclusion. A team of specialists from the Baltic Branch of the Register will monitor the progress of construction.
The new vessel is classified as a passenger sailing-motor yacht and will receive the class symbols KM⍟ Ice3 (hull) / Ice1 (machinery) / R2 AUT3 Passenger yacht (Motor-sailing), which confirms its ability to operate in difficult ice conditions and compliance with high requirements for automation and safety.
The original cruiser sailing ship "Phoenix" was part of the fleet from 1787 to 1803.
- In 1787, the ship was bought by Russia in Greece and became part of the Black Sea Fleet.
- The brig participated in the war with Turkey in 1787–1791, including the battles at Fidonisi and Cape Kaliakria.
- In the war with France in 1798–1800, the "Phoenix", under the command of Lieutenant L. F. Morskoy, was used as a transport ship.
- In 1801 and 1802, the brigantine sailed between the ports of the Black Sea.
- In 1803, the "Phoenix" was under the command of Lieutenant S. S. Karachinsky at the Nikolaev port.
- After 1803, it was dismantled in Nikolaev.
