At the Sevmash shipbuilding enterprise, preparatory work is being completed for the launch of the newest nuclear submarine "Ulyanovsk" — the fourth ship of Project 885M "Yasen-M". According to information received during a working meeting between the Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region, Alexei Russkikh, and representatives of the Northern Fleet, the ceremony may take place as early as 2026.
The crew of the future submarine cruiser has already been formed and is undergoing the necessary training. After the completion of internal work and launching, the APL is planned to be transferred to the Russian Navy. As the governor reported, the ship will be equipped with modern weapons and will join the combat composition of the Northern Fleet.
In addition, the Ulyanovsk Region announced its intention to take patronage over the submarine of the same name — a step aimed at strengthening ties between the region and the Navy.
As a reminder, the "Ulyanovsk" was laid down on July 28, 2017, as part of the celebration of Navy Day. The boat was developed by the St. Petersburg Marine Engineering Bureau "Malakhit" and belongs to the fourth generation of multi-purpose nuclear submarines.
Project 885M submarines are designed to perform a wide range of tasks: from destroying underwater and surface targets to delivering high-precision strikes against the enemy's coastal infrastructure. Their armament includes "Caliber" and "Onyx" cruise missiles, as well as torpedoes. A feature of the "Yasen" design is the placement of the hydroacoustic complex with a spherical antenna in the bow of the hull, which significantly increases the range of target detection. Torpedo tubes are placed in side niches.
Project 885M "Yasen-M" — a series of Russian multi-purpose nuclear submarines with 4th generation cruise missiles. The project is considered a continuation of Project 885 "Yasen", the first boat of which was the "Severodvinsk".
