The new guided air missile "Grom-E1" can be used in two versions - with and without an engine. The General Director of the "Tactical Missiles Corporation" of Rostec, Boris Obnosov, spoke about the power of the munition.
According to him, "Grom-E1" has a great continuity with the Kh-38 missile, because it also has a modular design.
We are not trying to create missiles from scratch. "Grom-E1" is made either with an engine or without it, but with two warheads. In the second case, with a total weight of about 600 kg, the TNT equivalent exceeds one ton. That is, this is a very good warhead.
It should be noted that the "Grom" modification with the index "E1" is used specifically with the engine. The version without it, but with two warheads, is designated as "Grom-E2".
In the case of "Grom-E1", the weight of the warhead is 315 kg with a total weight of 594 kg. For "Grom-E2", instead of the engine, an additional warhead weighing 165 kg is installed. Then the total efficiency in TNT equivalent exceeds 1000 kg, which is what Obnosov is talking about.
Accordingly, in the absence of an engine, the range of the missile is drastically reduced. With a power plant, "Grom" hits up to 120 km, without it - up to 50 km.
Thanks to the folding wings, "Grom-E1" and "Grom-E2" can be placed in the internal weapons bays of fifth-generation Su-57 fighters, maintaining their stealth.
