Oreshnik's Warheads Accelerate to Mach 10.6: Patriot Can Only Watch

The domestic missile is twice as fast as the PAC-3 interceptors

The warheads of the Russian Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) are twice as fast as the PAC-3 interceptor missiles in the American Patriot complex. This was stated by Alexander Stepanov, a military expert at the Institute of Law and National Security of the RANEPA.

According to him, Oreshnik demonstrated the fundamental inability of modern air and missile defense systems to intercept weapons of this class.

Unbiased sources reported that the speed of the Oreshnik warheads at the final stage was about 13 thousand km/h, that is, about Mach 10.6, Stepanov recalled.

Without eliminating the technical lag in the field of hypersonic technology, air defense systems in service with NATO countries are not able to effectively counter Russian hypersonic weapons.

Stepanov also noted that in the latest modification, the speed of the PAC-3 is just over 6 thousand km/h. This indicates a more than twofold superiority of the Oreshnik warhead.

The head of the Bureau of Military-Political Analysis, Alexander Mikhailov, explained that there is only one system in the world that iscapable of shooting down Oreshnik - the S-500 Prometheus. It is in service with the Russian military.
