Higher Tank School Revived in Russia 19 Years Later

ChVTKU will resume operations in 2026

Chelyabinsk Higher Tank Command School (ChVTKU) will resume operations after a 19-year hiatus. The educational institution will be relaunched in 2026 as part of the expansion of the military education system.

The decision fits into the Russian Ministry of Defence's long-term program for the development of military education through 2034. During this period, the ministry plans to create 15 new military higher educational institutions. Recall that the Chelyabinsk Tank School was disbanded in 2007.

After that, part of the territory was built up with residential districts. Apparently, this effectively means the creation of a training base almost from scratch — from barracks and training grounds to academic buildings.

In August 2025, the RKhBZ military school was revived in Saratov. The educational institution was named after Hero of Russia Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov.
