In 2025, Russian Railways (RZD) served over 1.31 billion passengers, which is 1.9% more than the previous year. This was reported in the holding's official Telegram channel.
The main contribution to the growth of passenger traffic came from suburban transportation: 1.1835 billion people were transported, which is 2.2% higher than in 2024. At the same time, long-distance travel volumes decreased by 0.6% and amounted to 126.7 million passengers.
The dynamics reflect a steady demand for short routes, especially in large agglomerations, where rail transport remains a key element of urban and regional mobility. The decrease in the number of passengers in long-distance travel may be due to both changes in consumer preferences and competition from aviation and bus transportation over medium and long distances. At the same time, there is potential for growth through the modernization of rolling stock and the digitalization of services.
