Russian Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin announced that large-scale construction will begin on the entire length of the Moscow - St. Petersburg High-Speed Railway (HSR) in 2026. According to him, the key focus will be on completing work on the pilot section from Zelenograd to Tver, where it is planned to test new Russian high-speed rolling stock.
The project is being implemented on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of the national project "Effective Transport System". The new railway line, approximately 700 km long, will pass through six regions inhabited by over 30 million people. It is expected that by 2030, passenger traffic between the capitals will reach 23 million people per year.
According to the schedule approved by the government, the design and construction work on the HSR is planned for the period from 2024 to 2028, and the commissioning of the line is scheduled for 2028.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Transport of Russia, Andrey Nikitin,announced important details of the construction of the high-speed railway (HSR). According to forecasts, the trip from the Russian capital to Valdai will take only one hour. The journey time to Veliky Novgorod will be one hour and forty minutes.
