The new medium-range aircraft MC-21-310 retains its status as a key Russian project in the field of civil aviation. Unique characteristics provide it with reduced operating costs compared to its counterparts, Rostec said.
The state corporation noted that PD-14 engines, a composite wing, and advanced aerodynamics form the high flight performance characteristics of the MC-21. The airliner program has taken a significant step forward, Rostec stated.
The airliner with new domestic systems — from avionics to power supply and air conditioning — has begun certification tests, which include more than two hundred flights and confirmation of all flight performance characteristics of the aircraft.
It should be noted that the key problem of the MC-21 remains the low flight range — only 3800 km instead of 5100 km. 2.2 billion rubles were allocated to reduce the weight of the aircraft. Aircraft manufacturers must solve this problem by the end of 2027. The media has already suggested two main ways to solve the problem of aircraft overweight.
