"Russia is doomed to become a great aviation power"

Chairman of the Rostransnadzor Commission Smirnov: 60% of the territory of the Russian Federation has no roads or railways

For Russia, the re-establishment of its own aircraft industry is the main challenge. The country could not rely only on Western technology, because until 1990 its production was envied by the whole world, explained Oleg Smirnov, chairman of the Commission on Civil Aviation of the Public Council of Rostransnadzor.

According to him, at present there is nowhere to make components in the quantity that the country needs. Factories were closed, design bureaus were liquidated, and the machine tool industry is not in the best condition.

Smirnov noted that in recent years the situation has been changing for the better. But destroying and building are not the same thing, recreating is much more difficult.

The most important thing is that highly professional personnel have been lost - technicians, engineers, designers. Now we need to quickly train personnel again. This is difficult and takes time, but it needs to be done. Given the territory of the country and the fact that 60% of it has neither roads nor railways, Russia is simply doomed to become a great aviation power - there is no other way out.

Executive Director of Rostec Oleg Yevtushenko, citing the production of the SJ-100 as an example, noted that in world practice this is a unique case. In order to implement import substitution, it was necessary to manufacture and refine about 40 systems and units, including the engine.

Prior to that, Oleg Panteleev, Executive Director of AviaPort, stated to "Perviy Technicheskiy" that Russia currently does not need a large number of regional aircraft such as the An-2 due to the development of road infrastructure.
