First Supersonic Aircraft in Russia to Appear No Earlier Than the 2040s

CIAM Has Started Creating a Scientific and Technical Reserve

The first supersonic aircraft in Russia may appear no earlier than the 2040s. This forecast was made by Andrey Kozlov, General Director of the Central Institute of Aviation Motor Engineering named after P. I. Baranov (CIAM).

According to him, supersonic is included in the scientific part of the state program for the development of the aviation industry, and there are already relevant contracts from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.

CIAM is working on creating a scientific and technical reserve on this topic. It not only forms a preliminary appearance of engines and power plants, but also studies them on experimental samples of individual elements, components, and systems.
Andrey Kozlov, General Director of CIAM

Kozlov drew attention to the fact that the engine is the most knowledge-intensive mechanical device, and the heaviest work lies on the units.

They ensure the aircraft's takeoff from the ground and flight at supersonic speeds along the route. They bear the entire load. We transfer the accumulated reserve to the industry.
Andrey Kozlov, General Director of CIAM

Earlier, Kozlov stated that Russia is three years ahead of the United States in the development of an engine for supersonic civil aviation.
