Aviation Engineer Explains the Superiority of the Tu-214 with Duralumin Wings Over the New MC-21

The composite wing of the MC-21 will have to be completely replaced in case of damage

The Tu-214 aircraft, a Soviet-era design, has a number of undeniable advantages over the seemingly promising MC-21 in its import-substituted form. These include adaptability to environmental conditions and high maintainability, according to aviation engineer Valery Ageev.

He recalled that the Tu-214 has already been equipped with modern safety and flight control systems. The aircraft can be adapted for various needs, including passenger, cargo, and special tasks. It is designed for the harshest conditions, including cold climates.

The duralumin wing of the Tu-214 is more maintainable, and in the event of damage to the composite wing of the MC-21, it will have to be replaced entirely.

Ageev emphasized that the Tu-214 is currently the only Russian airliner in its class with international certification and can operate on foreign routes.

However, the Kazan Aviation Plant (KAZ, part of PJSC "Tupolev" of the United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec) has not received a single contract for the supply of Tu-214.
