The airframe of the new promising Russian long-range aircraft MC-21-500, presumably, may be made mainly of composite materials, Ilya Shatilin, the founder of the Frequent Flyers aviation project, suggested in an interview with «The First Technical».
According to him, the aircraft will probably need PD-26 engines with a thrust of 26 tons based on the PD-35 gas generator. So far, there is actually no power plant, but such a unit is necessary for the promising military transport aircraft Il-100 "Elephant".
In the future, it is possible to produce engines that can replace the PD-14, Shatilin emphasized. He also noted that the PD-14 engine family is designed for the MC-21-310 and MC-21-210 aircraft and is not suitable for larger aircraft.
Logically, the airframe may be predominantly composite.
Shatilin emphasized that the MC-21-500 is currently in the concept development stage, and there are no technical details about it yet.
Presumably, the MC-21-500 will have a flight range of 9000 km.
