Will wait in the hangars: Restoration of Tu-204/214 and An-124 aircraft postponed until 2027

It was planned to return at least 12 aircraft to the sky in 2024

The restoration of the airworthiness of Russian-made aircraft was planned to be completed last year, but was postponed to 2027. This is stated in the draft decree of the Government of the Russian Federation, prepared by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and published on the portal of draft legal acts.

It was assumed that at least 12 aircraft would return to service in 2024. The technical characteristics described in the previous version correspond to An-124 and Tu-204/214 aircraft.

Rostec was engaged in the restoration and modification of aircraft at the expense of subsidies from the state budget. However, during the implementation of the program, unforeseen factors arose that affected the timing of obligations. These factors included a high degree of aircraft disrepair, untimely fulfillment of obligations by co-executors of work, and low rates of residual resources of component products.

In the process of upgrading the Tu-214, which included replacing imported materials with domestic analogues, difficulties arose with the fulfillment of obligations by suppliers of units and communication systems.

Thus, the draft resolution introduces changes to the Rules regarding the postponement of the timing of achieving the results of the provision of subsidies from 2024 to 2027, as well as to the order — regarding the extension of the completion date for the restoration of airworthiness of 7 aircraft from 2023 to 2024.
