Russian VK-650V engine outperformed major competitors from France and Canada in three criteria

The unit is better than Safran Arrius and PW207 in terms of power, weight and fuel consumption

The Russian VK-650V aircraft engine for the import-substituted Ansat helicopter surpasses its main competitors — the French Safran Arrius and the Canadian PW207. The comparison was made by the Aviaция России portal.

The domestic unit turned out to be better in four key parameters — emergency power mode, take-off power, dry weight and specific fuel consumption.

ВК-605В Safran Arrius 2G1 PW207
Take-off power, hp 650 504 630
Dry weight, kg 115 110 114
Specific fuel consumption in take-off mode, kg/hp h 0,245 0,245 0,245
Emergency power mode, min 2,5 2 2

As a reminder, CIAM named after P.I. Baranov issued a conclusion on the readiness of the VK-650V for flight tests in the summer of 2025. Then seven prototypes were made for ground and flight tests at the facilities.

In the near future, ODK-Klimov (part of the United Engine Corporation, UEC) plans to complete certification tests of the engine as part of helicopters and begin mass production of the VK-650V.

The head of the Rostec State Corporation, Sergei Chemezov, also noted that the range of the VK-605 also increased from 500 to 640 km, in this he is also better than his Canadian counterpart.
