Specialists from "UEC-Klimov" (part of the United Engine Corporation of Rostec) have created a 400 kW turbo generator with a weight of 200 kg based on the VK-650V helicopter engine.
The development is a new product for use in a hybrid power plant in unmanned aerial systems focused on the Arctic region.
To increase the power-to-weight ratio, engineers modified the engine gearbox with a change in the gear ratio. A high-speed rotor, operating at a frequency of tens of thousands of revolutions per minute, generates alternating current, which is converted into direct current with the required voltage level by a power electronics unit.
The basic VK-650V engine is designed for installation on light helicopters, including Ansat, Mi-34M1, and Ka-226. At the end of December 2024, Rosaviatsia issued a type certificate for the VK-650V.
The power plant develops a power of 545 hp in takeoff mode, 460 hp in maximum continuous mode, and 400 hp in cruise mode.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the aviation pump for MC-21, SJ-100 and Tu-214 became 17% lighter.
