At the VII Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum, Igor Sechin, Executive Secretary of the Presidential Commission on the Strategy for the Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex, head of Rosneft, stated that Russia remains the only country in the world with a full cycle of nuclear technologies — from uranium mining to processing and disposal of spent nuclear fuel.
A key area of international cooperation remains partnership with China. To date, with the participation of Russian specialists, four power units have been commissioned at the Tianwan NPP. In the coming years, the construction of four more reactors at the Tianwan and Xudapu sites will be completed. In addition to construction, Russian-Chinese cooperation covers the supply of uranium raw materials and the production of fuel assemblies using domestic technologies.
Particular attention is paid to the joint development of advanced nuclear solutions. Russia provides technical support to China in creating a fast neutron reactor — a technology that ensures more complete fuel burn-up and increased resource efficiency. Currently, only Russia has industrially tested solutions in this area.
Another competitive advantage of the Russian nuclear industry is economic efficiency. The cost of a modern VVER-1200 reactor is half that of a similar American AP1000, which makes Russian nuclear projects particularly in demand on the world market.
