Test pilot Garnaev: weight can be easily reduced by abandoning payload

Honored test pilot, Hero of Russia Alexander Garnaev told "First Technical" about the impossibility of achieving the declared operational range of the MC-21-310 airliner in real passenger transportation conditions. According to him, this is impossible "with any engines."

The MC-21 will not reach the initially declared operational range of 5100 km according to passenger transportation standards in any way, with any engines. Weight can be reduced "easily" by abandoning the payload - let the crew fly alone, set "records".

As a reminder, the MC-21-310 is considered a key domestic airliner that should replace foreign aircraft. The aircraft is equipped with domestic PD-14 engines.

Against the backdrop of preparations for mass production, criticism of the range has become an occasion for new disputes about the real capabilities of the aircraft and the correctness of the initial flight range calculations - about 3800 km instead of the initially declared 5100 km.

Aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained to "First Technical" that in the future the weight will be reduced by modernization.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the import-substituted MC-21 made only 23 out of 293 flights to complete certification.
