The construction of the first nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan with the participation of Rosatom is planned to begin in 2029, according to Almasadam Satkaliyev, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency of Kazakhstan.

Currently, the Russian state corporation is conducting exploration work in the Almaty region near the village of Ulken. Rosatom specialists have drilled about 50 wells and taken soil samples for analysis.

Analysis for the presence of radionuclides was carried out at about 2,000 points, hydrological, hydrotechnical, engineering analysis, topographic analysis of the area were carried out, and two hydroposts were installed.

Exploration is planned to be completed within 18 months. After that, the final configuration of the future station will be created.
