In the State Duma of the Russian Federation, an update to the All-Russian Classifier of Occupations of Workers, Positions of Employees, and Tariff Categories has been announced. The new list will be introduced on January 1, 2026. The Chairman of the Committee on Labor, Social Policy, and Veterans Affairs, Yaroslav Nilov, emphasized that the update is due to the need to account for the transformation of the labor market, the emergence of new professional fields, and the disappearance of obsolete specialties.
According to Nilov, the existing classifier, adopted in 1994 and last updated in 2012, is significantly outdated.
The updated list of professions will be developed based on modern realities and requirements for professional activities, which will ensure a more accurate and relevant reflection of the employment structure of the population.
The new classifier is planned to include 5,597 worker occupations, covering a wide range of professional activities, from an averband dyer (a specialist in dyeing fabrics using the manual knot dyeing method to create patterns on silk bases) to an optical instrument adjuster (a specialist who performs precise adjustment, regulation, and assembly of optical systems and devices), as well as 4,338 employee positions, from agent to lawyer.
The changes are necessary to improve statistical accounting, address issues related to labor migration, administer labor relations, and provide benefits to workers with harmful or difficult working conditions. In addition, they will contribute to assessing the number of employees, organizing their wages, and calculating pensions.
Special attention in the updated classifier will be paid to new professions that were not represented in the previous version. Among them are specialties such as coach, spa manager, copywriter, SMM manager, artificial intelligence specialist, 3D printing engineer, landscape designer, layout artist, corporate social policy specialist, and others. These professions reflect modern trends in the development of IT, finance, content production, ecology, and other key sectors of the economy.
The development of the new classifier is taking place under the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
