«Маленький гигант»: Омские инженеры оживили легендарный Ан-2

Engines and communication systems have been modernized, the aircraft is ready for Arctic testing

Omsk aircraft designers have redesigned the legendary An-2 aircraft and given it a new name — "Russian Arctic". The modernized biplane was assembled at the Omsk enterprise "Motor". The machine has all the certificates for flights and is ready for operation.

The "Russian Arctic" will be used for various tasks: patrolling borders, providing the Northern Sea Route, working for the Ministry of Emergency Situations and medical services, as well as domestic tourism.

The aircraft is characterized by low energy consumption, light weight and compactness, equipped with a satellite communication system, GLONASS navigation and a collision avoidance system. The cabin is equipped with a multifunctional personal satellite communication system, as well as an automatic medium-wave radio complex and an ILS landing system. In addition, an early collision warning system (SPPZ) has been introduced, which makes the operation of the aircraft especially safe in difficult Arctic conditions.

The flight range of the "Russian Arctic" reaches 2000 kilometers, while the aircraft can carry 12–15 passengers and develops a speed of up to 200 km/h. Moreover, the aircraft is capable of performing takeoffs and landings on unprepared sections of the Arctic coast, which makes it extremely useful for regions with a lack of infrastructure.

As for mass production: the Omsk aircraft repair plant "Motor" found an original financing scheme — they created aviation clubs, among which there are wealthy people who want to invest in the aircraft as a "personal" aircraft. This made it possible to start production without having to wait for large government tenders.
