The possibility of using artificial intelligence as a safe assistant in nuclear power is being discussed by Rosatom with the global nuclear community, as stated by Igor Skobelev, General Director of Tsifrum (Rosatom State Corporation), at the Digital Solutions forum recently held in Moscow.
Today, we are actively working with the IAEA, the international community, and within the framework of Russian regulators to develop approaches for using artificial intelligence as an assistant, including in nuclear power.
The question of the safety of using AI in a high-risk area with catastrophic consequences remains important. The initiative requires a more balanced approach and a deep analysis of all aspects.
Igor Skobelev, speaking at the session "Technologies of the Future and Present: From Experiments to Scaling," noted that the state corporation already has the first examples of such an AI support system at the Novovoronezh NPP.
We use the developments of other industries and work with the international community on safety.
Currently, standards for the safe use of AI in nuclear power are being developed. Discussions are also underway within the IAEA and with major global technology giants who are actively involved in the global nuclear agenda, Skobelev noted.
