Длина тоннеля через Берингов пролив может составить до 112 километров — в два раза длиннее Евротоннеля

Engineers are assessing the possibility of building a twin-tube tunnel that will connect Chukotka with Alaska in eight years

Scientist Viktor Razbegin, the author of the project, said that the length of the tunnel through the Bering Strait, including exits, may vary from 98 to 112 kilometers.

The minimum width of the strait in this place is about 83 kilometers. But, firstly, it is necessary to count together with the exits. Secondly, the route does not go along the shortest distance, given the fact that there are two islands in the middle of the strait — Ratmanov Island and Krusenstern Island. There are only four and a half kilometers between them, and they are very convenient to use for construction.

Studies of tunnel options have been conducted since the 1990s. The most promising concept involves two transport tunnels and one service tunnel, connected by adits. The structure may consist of three sections, two of which will be comparable in length to the Channel Tunnel.

The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, also announced the project, noting that with the use of Boring Company technologies, the tunnel can be built in less than eight years, and the costs may amount to about $8 billion.

Such a tunnel would be twice as long as the Channel Tunnel connecting France and Great Britain. Its length is about 51 kilometers.

Earlier www1.ru reported that electric vehicles will no longer be allowed on the Crimean Bridge.
