The Russian Ministry of Defense has for the first time purchased the latest air-launched cruise missiles "Product 506" for the Tu-160M bomber. This was reported by the Telegram channel "Military Informant" with reference to open sources.
The authors recalled that the first public mention of "Product 506" dates back to 2021, and the contract for their testing was concluded in 2015. What the missile looks like is still unknown.
The main carriers of the new missiles are the modernized Tu-160M missile-carrying bombers, which will receive the necessary design changes in the bomb bay mechanism.
Confirmation that "Product 506" is indeed a cruise missile can be found in an interview with Igor Kuznetsov, General Director of GosNIImash JSC, from 2016.
Among the future projects planned by the company, Kuznetsov mentioned a certain "Product 506", without revealing exactly what it is. According to the CEO, it will receive unique characteristics that have no analogues abroad.
