"Yandex Taxi" plans to implement and test robotaxis using the latest technologies and expand its use by the end of 2025. Next year, the company expects users to be able to order autonomous taxis for their trips.
Autonomous vehicles operating on new technology will become available in Yandex Taxi.
At the first stage, only Yandex employees will be able to order a robotaxi. In 2026, with the approval of the Moscow Department of Transportation, the first 100 cars will begin operating in limited areas of the capital with regular passengers. The assignment of a robotaxi upon call will be random, but you can refuse its service, Anikin clarified.
The cost of trips in autonomous vehicles will be comparable to a regular taxi. According to Anikin, the mass introduction of unmanned vehicles in the future will help curb the growth of prices for taxi services.
Since 2016, Yandex has been actively developing autonomous driving technology. Currently, robotaxis created by this company operate in test mode in Moscow, Innopolis, and Sirius. During the trip, there is always a test driver in the car, ready to intervene in the control in case of unforeseen situations.
