The Russian «AmberAuto A5» electric car became the best-selling new electric car in Russia for the first time, surpassing its competitor Zeekr 001. Anna Utkina, Communications Director of Avtodom Group and AvtoSpetsCenter Group, explained why this car model has gained popularity among Russians.
In her opinion, the reason is that the model was included in the subsidy program and received favorable lending conditions, which made it more attractive compared to competitors. This is especially true for customers with limited budgets.
«AmberAuto A5» is assembled in the Kaliningrad region. The power of the electric motor of the car is about 160 horsepower, the battery is 60.2 kWh. The declared range is up to 520 km according to the CLTC method.
Among the main competitors of «AmberAuto A5» on the Russian market are Zeekr 001, «Moskvich 3e», Evolute i-PRO/i-JOY and, to a lesser extent, models of the BYD brand. Zeekr 001 periodically led in sales in Russia until September. However, it may be inferior to A5 in terms of energy efficiency on the highway and in terms of «price-mileage-equipment».
At the end of September 2025, «AmberAuto A5» became the leader in the electric vehicle market, with 153 cars sold in a month. Utkina expressed doubts about the possibility of maintaining leadership, emphasizing the importance of stable government support and the development of charging infrastructure in Russian cities.
