The Ural Federal University (UrFU), in collaboration with the Liaoning University of Technology, has created new composite bricks. They possess unique heat-accumulating properties. This was reported by the press service of UrFU.
Scientists have manufactured two models of self-insulating hollow bricks: one filled with a phase change material (PCM) composite, the other without it. Hexadecane (paraffin) was used as the PCM filler.
Composite bricks reduce heat loss inside premises by 15%-25% compared to traditional counterparts.
According to Vladimir Alekhin, Head of the Department of Computer-Aided Design Systems at UrFU, the new bricks are capable of accumulating heat during solar peaks. This significantly increases their efficiency in cold climates.
Tests have shown that the temperature between the inner and outer surfaces of the bricks can differ by almost 6°C.
Earlierwww1.ru reported that a new method for creating building materials wasdiscovered in Perm.
