Novosibirsk State University (NSU) has developed a new environmentally friendly building material from ash and slag, which in the future may replace traditional cement. This was reported in the press service of the university.
The uniqueness of the project lies in the fact that the new building material is made entirely from industrial waste, namely ash and slag - this is what is formed during the combustion of solid fuels (coal, peat, shale) at thermal power plants, boiler houses and other industrial plants. Thus, waste that has been accumulating in landfills for years and polluting the environment is transformed into a useful and high-quality product for construction.
Ash and slag are crushed into powder and mixed with special activators. When water is added, a chemical reaction is triggered, resulting in a strong stone similar to cement. The new material fully meets the stated requirements for strength and water absorption.
The advantages of the development are low cost and environmental friendliness. The new material can be used in various areas of construction - floor screeds, bricklaying, plastering and the manufacture of building blocks. The researchers plan to launch industrial production of this innovative material.
Earlierwww1.ru reported that the production of building insulationwill be established in Russia.
