IT equipment and software distributor OCS has published a study according to which only about 10% of Russian companies use servers with domestic processors. The survey covered 173 top managers from various industries.
Three out of four companies use servers based on x86 architecture processors from American manufacturers Intel and AMD. The ARM architecture, which is mainly used by Chinese vendors, including Huawei, is chosen half as often. Servers based on Russian "Elbrus" processors (VLIW architecture) and "Baikal Electronics" (MIPS, ARM and RISC-V architectures) are used by 7% and 5% of respondents, respectively. The least common is the international open RISC architecture - it is used by 2% of companies. An OCS representative noted that survey participants could indicate several options.
The study was conducted among top managers of the largest, large and medium-sized companies in the fields of metallurgy, chemical industry, telecommunications, media, mechanical engineering, finance, as well as oil and gas and coal complexes. Medium-sized businesses include companies with annual revenue from 800 million to 2 billion rubles, large businesses - from 2 billion to 25 billion rubles, and the largest - over 25 billion rubles.
