The Russian car market is gradually stabilizing after the overstocking that occurred at the end of 2024. According to dealers and experts, the total inventory of new passenger cars by September 2025 is about 350 thousand units, while in January they reached 600-700 thousand.
Monthly inventory reductions continue, and by October, experts believe the figure could fall to 280-300 thousand cars.
Growing demand and upcoming changes in the calculation of the recycling fee are contributing to the reduction in inventories. From November 1, the new methodology may take into account engine power, which will lead to an increase in prices for individual models up to 2 million rubles. According to experts, this will limit imports and prevent re-stocking of the market.
Renat Tyukteev, Deputy General Director of AG Avilon, notes that the inventories of importers and dealers now correspond to current demand, and a shortage is observed only for individual brands, for example, the Chinese Jetour. According to the calculations of the Russian Automotive Dealers Association (ROAD), current inventories are comparable to approximately three months of sales, which is close to the upper limit of the norm.
Among last year's models in warehouses, there are the most Changan cars - about 38 thousand units. The list with the maximum number of last year's cars also includes FAW, Knewstar, Kaiyi, Hongqi, Omoda, BAIC, Exeed, Jetour, Soueast, Wey, Aito, Geely, JAC and Tank. At the same time, Belgee, Lada, Voyah, Chery, Moskvich and UAZ have a minimal share of old cars.
