Counting "Smartly": State Duma Proposes Implementing Automated Data Collection for Utility Services

According to deputies, this will minimize the human factor and eliminate errors in calculations

Deputies of the State Duma from the "New People" faction sent a proposal to the Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services, Irek Fayzullin, to introduce "smart" sensors for online meter readings in the housing and communal services system. The initiative was supported by Sardana Avksentyeva, Vladimir Plyakin, and Anton Tkachev.

Parliamentarians noted that errors in utility bills force citizens to overpay, which reduces confidence in management companies. The reasons for such errors include failures in the formation of payment documents, inaccuracies in the transmission of meter readings, and malfunctions of metering devices.

The deputies' letter emphasizes that "smart" sensors will automate data collection in real-time, minimize the human factor, and eliminate errors in calculations. This, according to the authors, will improve the accuracy of calculations for utility services and increase the transparency of the housing and communal services system.

The initiative is under consideration, and the timing of its implementation and technical details have not yet been specified. The introduction of such technologies could become part of a broader modernization of housing and communal services in Russia.
