BPA Technologies, a resident of the Lomonosov cluster, has developed a system for anonymously tracking the movement of people and objects without the use of biometric data. The technology, based on applying invisible paint to clothing or equipment, was presented in Moscow.
The system uses a special paint composition that is invisible to the human eye but recognized by cameras. These cameras transmit data to an analytical module, where artificial intelligence creates a digital profile of movements. The paint is safe, resistant to external influences, and maintains tracking accuracy even in low light or high object density. The technology can be used in retail, logistics, industry, and transport to analyze customer behavior, manage passenger flows, optimize workspaces, and monitor equipment.
According to Vadim Medyanik, technical director of BPA Technologies, the system does not collect personal data, and the tags are unique numbers without reference to personal information. This distinguishes it from biometric systems, such as the Unified Biometric System (UBS), which requires user consent. Lawyer Gleb Stepanov noted that the technology complies with the law, as it does not use biometrics or personal data.
The presented tracking system does not fall under the list of requirements provided for by the relevant law. Currently, legislation does not regulate tracking systems with anonymized data and anonymous tags. If the tracking settings do not involve the collection of biometrics and work with personal data, then there are no restrictions regarding the procedure for using the technology. In other words, such systems are legal and therefore operate within the legal framework.
Experts note that the system simplifies process control in manufacturing and logistics but point to the risks associated with the possible transfer of work clothes between employees or data leaks. The technology is already being tested at large enterprises where QR codes on uniforms were previously used.
