Полувековой танк Т-62 стал самоходкой благодаря фермовому порогу: дальность огня выросла в два раза

The UT-5TS "Molot" gun barrel rose 30 degrees higher than the design's 16.5 degrees

Russian military personnel have once again shown ingenuity and turned a half-century-old T-62MB tank with a UT-5TS "Molot" smoothbore gun into an improvised self-propelled artillery unit. Footage of the innovation has appeared online.

This effect was achieved by elevating the front of the vehicle on a "trussed threshold," providing an additional 15-30 degrees of gun elevation to the design's 16.5 degrees.

This solution ensured an increase in the range of 115-mm high-explosive fragmentation shells of extended range from 9.5 km to 18-23 km. The initial velocity of the ZOF18 projectile is 905 m/s.

The T-62MV was adopted into service back in 1962, but they remain "workhorses" in supporting assault units with fire, especially when firing from closed positions.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that footage of the amazing T-72B3M tank with dreads and a KMT-7 mine trawl has appeared: an example of Russian ingenuity.
