Tu-204 chief designer sentenced Tu-214: "will not take off" due to PS-90A and weight

Engine life before overhaul - only 7,000 flight hours

The Tu-214 aircraft, manufactured at the Kazan Aviation Plant, has a significant disadvantage - high fuel consumption by the PS-90A engines, said Oleg Alasheev, chief designer of the Tu-204.

He recalled that the PS-90A consume more fuel compared to the Rolls-Royce RB211s, which were used in the Tu-204-120 modification.

After approximately 7,000 flight hours, the PS-90A needs to be removed from the wing and sent for repair, while the Rolls-Royce engines have this figure at around 30,000 flight hours.

30 divided by 7 - it turns out a lot. And they also charge very big money for each repair, more than Western competitors, which makes operating the aircraft difficult for the operator. That's their main disadvantage.

There is also a problem with the weight of the aircraft. According to Alasheev, the design of the aircraft needs to "lose weight" from 2 to 5 tons.

There are also questions about the lack of a full-fledged repair base for the Tu204/214, without which the operation of the aircraft is difficult.

Earlier, Alasheev called the production of Tu-214 one at a time per year meaningless.
