Laser air defense technologies are most effective in combination with electronic warfare (EW), mechanical, and kinetic means of destruction, according to Natalia Kotlyar, Deputy Director of the Vector Research Institute (part of Rosel of Rostec).
She noted that tiered defense systems also remain in demand. For example, SERP complexes are installed at critical infrastructure facilities.
The latest modification, SERP-VS13D, operates on 13 frequencies, combining electronic warfare and a high-precision detector. It "kills" quadcopters with control functions in a wide frequency range. SERP is controlled both automatically and manually, activating only in case of real danger.
Last week in Russia, bench tests of an updated, more powerful laser installation (beam weapon) were successfully conducted as part of the "Staff" project, according to the CEO of the developing company.
