The high-precision multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) "Tornado-S" manufactured by the Tula-based NPO "Splav" has achieved a new record in circular error probable (CEP) of the 00-mm guided rocket 9M542.
Having traveled about 100 km, the rocket covered the target with a CEP of no more than five meters, and the deviation of the second munition did not exceed 1.5 m, which is a new record.
The 9M542 missiles are equipped with a radio navigation module GLONASS-correction with a jam-resistant CRPA-antenna of the "Cometa-M" line.
Rostec noted that the control system unit for the "Tornado-S" was created on the basis of a strapdown inertial navigation system, which sets not only the flight range, but also its trajectory for each MLRS missile.
The firing range of guided rockets is more than 100 km. The firing accuracy of the "Tornado-S" missiles is 15–20 times higher than that of the missiles of its predecessor, the Smerch MLRS.
Earlier www1.ru reported that new missiles with a cluster warhead have been developed for the most powerful MLRS.
