Russian Railways (RZD) is preparing to launch completely new railway cars, as announced by the company's CEO and Chairman of the Board, Oleg Belozerov.
This year, we will actually launch a compartment car of dimension T. This car is 28 cm wider and 73 cm longer. The traditional berth in a compartment car will be 20 cm longer and 3 centimeters wider.
Six cars of dimension T have been certified. By the end of this year, it is planned to purchase 38 of them.
Trains with updated cars will appear on the Moscow - St. Petersburg route from September. In parallel, Russian Railways is working to increase the level of comfort in open-plan cars.
Not only regular berths, but also side berths, the most challenging ones, will also increase in length and width. Moreover, a separate additional shower will be installed, which will also create additional opportunities.
The certification of the new open-plan car will take place in December of this year. It will be put into operation in 2026.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russian Railways has started testing the first compartment car of increased dimensions.
