High key interest rates and unaffordable prices for new cars are forcing people to choose cars with higher mileage

According to "Autostat Info", more than 2/3 of cars in the country, namely 71.3%, are cars older than 10 years, while the share of vehicles aged 1-3 years is only 7.4%. The most represented brand is still the domestic Lada, but most of them were produced before 2016. The aging of the vehicle fleet is also facilitated by a large number of cars imported from abroad with an already extensive history.

Citizens cannot afford a new car due to the high price - on average, prices in dealerships for a new car are 2.5 million rubles. Lending is also in decline due to the high key rate. Even if a Russian is willing to buy a new car, not everyone trusts the new, mostly Chinese brands, and simply do not see the point in changing vehicles.

If the situation does not improve, by 2030 the vehicle fleet will be more than 80% composed of cars older than 15 years. This may affect road safety, because a car after 300,000 km of mileage needs to be serviced more often and carefully, and if it was bought out of desperation, there is no hope for this. Even in new condition, 15-20-year-old cars did not have the degree of safety that current new products can boast - cameras, intelligent assistants, ADAS - are absent in them, which can also lead to accidents
