A new scheme for distributing prohibited information has emerged in the Telegram messenger — through digital gifts. This was reported by State Duma deputy Anton Nemkin.
Attackers give popular channel administrators virtual gifts with a description that subtly embeds a link to illegal content — such as online casinos, drug trafficking, or extremist resources. If the administrator does not notice the trick, the gift becomes visible to the channel's subscribers.
After that, the scammers send complaints to regulatory authorities accusing them of spreading prohibited information. According to the deputy, this scheme is especially dangerous for elderly administrators or those who do not track innovations in the platform.
