A new scheme for distributing prohibited information has appeared in the Telegram messenger — through digital gifts. This was reported by State Duma deputy Anton Nemkin.
Attackers give administrators of popular channels virtual gifts with a description that secretly embeds a link to illegal content — for example, online casinos, drug trafficking, or extremist resources. If the administrator does not notice the trick, the gift becomes visible to the channel's subscribers.
After that, fraudsters send complaints to supervisory authorities accusing them of distributing prohibited information. According to the deputy, this scheme is especially dangerous for elderly administrators or those who do not track innovations in the platform.
