Cybercriminals have stepped up attacks on Telegram channel administrators. This was announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Attackers are using a method related to the "Suggested Publications" feature.
According to the Cybercrime Unit, there was a 40% increase in registrations of suspicious phishing domains associated with Telegram in June. Scammers use a cunning scheme: they send channel owners, most often with a small audience of up to 10 thousand subscribers, commercial offers to place content. The offers contain malicious links that lead to fake Telegram authorization pages , imitating the official interface.
When the administrator enters their data, including login and SMS code, the attackers gain full access to the account. With the help of a compromised profile, they can manage the channel. This is necessary for criminals for further fraudulent activities.
Law enforcement officers draw attention to the fact that the goals of cybercriminals may be different: they range from extorting money for restoring access to using the channel to distribute destructive content and stealing funds from Stars/NFT systems.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges not to follow suspicious links and to check the sources of information before entering information.
