The Russian government has approved new rules regarding the passage of special vehicles on the roads. Now, drivers are required to change lanes to free up a lane for vehicles with flashing beacons. The decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on July 16.
According to information from the Ministry of Transport, the new rules clarify how drivers should act when encountering special vehicles. At the same time, no new categories of vehicles with flashing beacons are introduced, and no additional advantages are provided for such vehicles.
Previously, the traffic rules did not have clear instructions on how exactly drivers should give way to special vehicles, which sometimes led to dangerous situations. Now, drivers must either change to the adjacent lane or, if possible, pull over to the side of the road. If the driver performs this maneuver, he will not be held administratively liable. If a special vehicle is moving in the adjacent lane, it is enough to simply not obstruct it.
The Ministry of Transport emphasizes that the new rules are aimed at preventing unjustified failure to give way to special vehicles and reducing claims against drivers.
