Currently, the Russian Navy (VMF) does not need classic aircraft carriers. Therefore, the decommissioning and disposal of the cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov" of Project 1143.5 would be absolutely correct, said former commander of the Pacific Fleet, Admiral Sergei Avakyants.
According to him, aircraft carriers in their classic form are not needed by the Russian fleet.
An aircraft carrier is a passing era, an ineffective and expensive naval weapon. The future lies with carriers of unmanned aviation and robotic systems. As for "Admiral Kuznetsov", if the decision is made not to continue the repair, it only remains to be cut into scrap metal and disposed of.
About the aircraft-carrying cruiser of the Russian Navy "Admiral Kuznetsov"
In 2017, the aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov" returned from a campaign in Syria. Since then, it has been undergoing repairs and modernization in Murmansk. The work was carried out by employees of the Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center (part of USC). It was expected that the avionics, flight deck with a ski jump, power equipment, and power plant would be replaced on the cruiser.
Earlier www1.ru reported that a new wide-body aircraft will appear in Russia: development deadlines have been announced.
