The helicopter industry in Russia is facing a large-scale reform, the key element of which will be the production of a new multi-purpose Mi-80 helicopter. The project is designed to solve the problem of the lack of a unified standard for modifications of the Mi-8/17 family of helicopters produced by various enterprises in the country, according to the Technosphere Russia publication.
The basis of the project is the modernized Mi-171A3, but with a number of improvements: more powerful engines, new rotor blades and an increased take-off weight of up to 14 tons.
The main goal is to organize a unified production at two main helicopter plants in Russia and reduce the cost of the platform. The creation of a unified platform (Mi-80) will overcome the fragmentation in production and ensure complete interchangeability of units and components of helicopters produced by different plants. This will greatly simplify repair, operation and logistics for customers.
There is a helicopter project with the working title Mi-80. Its basis is the same Mi-171A3, but with a number of improvements such as new rotor blades and more powerful engines. The goal of the program is to reduce the cost of the platform, unified production at KVZ and UUAZ, an increase in take-off weight to 14 tons, and the replacement of all Mi-8s by 2030.
At the same time, the launch of the Mi-80 will require a large-scale restructuring of production processes at both main helicopter plants to work with the new unified platform. This is a complex process, which, according to experts, may take from 5 to 10 years.
Earlier www1.ru reported that ODK will sharply increase the production of aircraft engines.
