The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation may abandon the restoration of the aircraft-carrying cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov". Currently, the repair and modernization of the warship of Project 1143.5 is completely suspended.
Representatives of the Navy (VMF) and the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC, part of Rostec) will soon make a decision on the fate of the ship. Experts did not rule out that, as a result, the physically and morally outdated aircraft carrier could be written off and sent for disposal.
"Admiral Kuznetsov" has been undergoing modernization since 2017. Several incidents occurred during the repair. For example, in 2018, the country's largest floating dock sank, damaging the ship's hull. And in 2019, a major fire occurred on the aircraft carrier.
