Russia will begin using the minimally invasive Rezum procedure to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, or prostate adenoma). This was announced by Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the Russian Society for Endourology and New Technologies, Professor Alexey Martov at the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference "Intelligence and Integration in Urology" in Arkhangelsk. This is a new technique for Russian clinics.
This is water vapor therapy for prostate adenoma. This is a new operation, we are still studying it. It is absolutely minimally invasive, it is very easy to reproduce, it is quick, and the effect occurs two to three months after this intervention. The intervention lasts only 15 minutes.
With the Rezum method, excess prostate tissue is removed using water vapor. The professor emphasized that the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. However, at the moment, urologists are still mastering this technique, so the operation is more often performed under spinal anesthesia or general anesthesia.
We are studying it because, of course, it is not indicated for all patients. It does not lead to the desired result in everyone. But this is practically an outpatient office procedure. And this, of course, is beneficial, because any inpatient treatment, if you calculate it, is, of course, expensive.
A new treatment method was presented at the conference of leading urologists in the country. The first operations have already been performed in Arkhangelsk, and in the future they plan to introduce this technology on a massive scale. Maxim Savelyev, Chief Urologist of the Ministry of Health of the Arkhangelsk Region, noted that this procedure is the safest way to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia for patients. According to him, the new technique is especially important, since every eleventh man in Russia suffers from BPH.
Earlier, Sechenov University performed the first operationusing a robotic system. Prosthetics of the abdominal aorta was successful.
