Specialists at Sechenov University have performed an operation using a robotic system for the first time. Aortic abdominal prosthetics was successful.
Using the Da Vinci robotic system, we performed aortic abdominal prosthetics, that is, we replaced the altered vessels with prostheses. Thanks to the use of the robot, the operation was performed through just a few punctures. This avoided significant trauma during the operation and greatly accelerated the patient's rehabilitation process.
Aortic abdominal prosthetics was performed on a 65-year-old patient with Leriche's syndrome (damage to the iliac arteries by atherosclerotic plaques). Exactly one day later, the patient was able to move freely and no longer felt pain in her legs, which had bothered her before.
Roman Komarov emphasized that "the use of a robotic system during operations guarantees better accuracy, more thorough execution of the mobilization stage and surgical suture."
The surgeons plan to continue using the robotic system, making operations available to all patients under the mandatory health insurance.
