Specialists from Sechenov University have performed an operation using a robotic system for the first time. Prosthetic repair of the abdominal aorta was successful.
Using the Da Vinci robotic system, we performed prosthetic repair of the abdominal aorta, that is, we replaced the altered vessels with prostheses. Thanks to the use of the robot, the operation was performed through just a few punctures. This avoided significant trauma during the operation and greatly accelerated the patient's rehabilitation process.
Prosthetic repair of the abdominal aorta was performed on a 65-year-old patient with Leriche's syndrome (damage to the iliac arteries by atherosclerotic plaques). Exactly one day later, the patient was able to move freely and no longer felt the leg pain that had bothered her before.
Roman Komarov emphasized that "the use of a robotic system during operations guarantees better accuracy, more thorough execution of the mobilization and surgical suture stage."
The surgeons plan to continue using the robotic system, making operations available to all patients under the compulsory health insurance.
