Detailed footage of the operation of the highly mobile combat laser system of the mobile air defense group from the Special Operations Forces "Nomad" was recently published online. The development of technologies has allowed laser systems to become an effective air defense tool.
However, combat lasers are not able to replace traditional air defense systems. Limited range (5-10 km), the inability to engage heavy targets, and dependence on weather conditions prevent their use as a universal air defense asset.
Nevertheless, lasers have a number of advantages — virtually zero cost per shot, instantaneous target engagement, high accuracy, and effectiveness against cheap drones.
These features make them very valuable in the context of massive drone attacks, when the expenditure of missiles becomes impractical.
