State Duma deputies approved in the second reading a bill on changes in the indicators of the federal budget for 2025. Part of the amendments concerned the financing of the creation of civil aircraft.
The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of Rostec) was allowed to spend unused funds from a contribution to the authorized capital in the amount of 2.2 billion rubles on the MC-21-310 aircraft project, which is in the certification stage.
The funds will be used for experimental design work and research to reduce the weight of the vessel, as well as improve aerodynamic and flight performance characteristics.
The use of Russian composite materials led to a significant increase in the weight of the MC-21, becoming one of the main reasons for the shifts in the project implementation timeline to the right.
The aircraft became almost 6 tons heavier, which sharply worsened flight characteristics. For example, with a full load, the flight range decreased by half, to 2.8 thousand kilometers or even to 2 thousand, which took the aircraft out of the category of medium-range.
