Russia experienced the most powerful magnetic storm, which lasted 27 hours. It raged from 3 a.m. Moscow time on May 29 to 6 a.m. on May 30. This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the IKI and ISZF.
The geomagnetic storm became the longest since the record storms of May 2024.
The storm registered then lasted 39 hours and reached the highest score of G5 at its peak — the largest in 20 years. On the scale of the entire 25th solar cycle, the past storm ranks third, also behind the event of February 26-28, 2023, which lasted 33 hours.
At the moment, the magnetic field is at the yellow level, which indicates its excited state. The possibility of the resumption of new storms in the coming hours is high.
