Сильная магнитная буря класса G3 накрыла Землю

Sudden solar wind surge causes powerful geomagnetic disturbances

On the night of May 29, 2025, a sharp increase in the speed of the solar wind was recorded in near-Earth space, reaching up to 650 km/s, and its temperature sometimes exceeded 1 million degrees. This led to a powerful G3-class geomagnetic storm that began at 5:16 AM Moscow time.

According to the Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism of the Russian Academy of Sciences, such storms can affect the operation of satellite systems, radio communications, and power grids. Although forecasts initially suggested only a 51% probability of geomagnetic disturbances, the actual intensity turned out to be higher than expected.

Experts suggest that the storm will not last long, but background disturbances will persist until the end of the week. High-frequency communications, navigation systems (including GLONASS), and transformers in the circumpolar latitudes are at risk.
