Updated military anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) "Tor-M2" need to be urgently adapted to intercepting "free-drop" strike copters and kamikaze drones with ultra-small effective reflecting surface (RCS). This opinion was expressed by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
Thus, he reacted to the statement of analyst Igor Korotchenko that further modernization of the "Tor-M2" should go towards the development of a new generation of small-sized anti-aircraft guided missiles (SAMs) aimed at destroying aircraft-type strike drones.
It should be a small-sized, cheap and mass-produced SAM.
Damantsev added that the current radar detectors of the "Tor-M2" are not always able to detect free-drop copters with an RCS of less than 0.02 sq. m and ultra-small FPV drones.
For this, the "Tor-M2" can be retrofitted with 4 fixed Ka-band AESA and MWIR sensors, providing all-round visibility and detection of targets with an RCS of thousandths of a square meter and heat-contrast targets.
